The Characters of the Caribbean

Each island has its own personality and there is no better arena to witness it than the regional Bum Boat sailing regattas held through out the Southern Caribbean.

Colourful Boats and colourful characters. Filled with Caribbean flavour, language, expression and music , the boats arrive by what ever means possible. This held true for the Tobago Carnival Regatta 2009 as the Bum Boats from Carriacou, Bequia and the Grenadines arrived after 17 hrs of sailing by Ferry into Scarborough on Monday 9th Feb.

The minute they arrived everyone knew it. The noise level rose, the laughter peeled and the challenges were set. Who would be the best of the Caribbean Bum Boats?

Each boat was put to the test by the strong northerly winds that came across the bay and in the end only the best survived to call themselves champions, among them , Bluff , Bequia Pride and Passion took first , second and third place respectively in the 28th footer category , Limbo , Ace and Thunder took pride of place in the 24th category and Nerrisa J, Tornado and More worries did the part in the 18th ft category.

In the end a good time was had by all with promises of a repeat challenge in 2010.
